About

I believe in the immense power of words.
And I’ve used my linguistic skills to make big impacts throughout my career.

Over the last twenty years, I have utilized copywriting to:
💥 Craft emails and push notifications that have boosted sales for multiple businesses.
💥 Align a 1000+ person company around a brand identity and vision statement.
💥 Get an unlawfully sentenced man out of prison 20 years earlier than anyone thought possible.
💥 Earn a weekly gig as a “Sports Poet” on a 50,000 watt major San Francisco radio station.
💥 Write an award-winning curriculum for a project that I co-founded.

Starting as an entrepreneur and activist in the nonprofit world early in my professional career, I shifted gears and joined LF, a high-end fashion brand, in 2018, then Spin (Ford’s micromobility unit) the next year. There, I developed a deep love of modern marketing. Inspired by forward-thinking marketing leaders like Seth Godin, Donald Miller, and Bernadette Jiwa, I learned that this work centers around authentically and generatively connecting with the customer.

“JR understands the minds of customers very, very well. That’s one reason he became my go-to for important and everyday copywriting — I love how he takes creative risks with his words. JR was instrumental in developing Spin’s vision and verbal identity. He’s always prepared for meetings and reliable with deadlines. I think he’s a winner and he has my highest recommendation.”
